Kaya! I'm Natalie Clark-Jackson, the artist behind Djarliny—a name meaning flame in my local dialect.
My mother's family are Wardandi and Biblumun. I grew up in a large family, and my Great-grandmother was our anchor. My father is from the Balladong Noongar nation, and while I'm deeply proud of this heritage, my connection to his country remains something I'm still building.
My paintings honour both these realms: knowing country, wanting to connect, and honouring my ancestors. My artworks explore what it means to be Noongar, and the complexities of identity, both personal and cultural. Through vibrant colours and expressive form, I aim to also invite reflection and dialogue as I believe art has the power to heal and foster understanding. Each piece is a conversation about spirituality, connection, and what binds us all together. As I create, I'm committed to building meaningful community connections and celebrating the rich diversity of human experience through my work.
BIRAK - BUNURU - DJERAN - MAKURU - DJILBA - KAMBARANG
The Noongar Seasons have always been a-part of Aboriginal life and like time itself, the Six Noongar Seasons represent a predictable timetable of foreseeable events. Acknowledgement that nothing is unconnected, and each change is being influenced by the last. Animals, insects and Noongar people have always relied on this process, moving across the land directed by the weather and location of available foods. Plants flower at the same times of year, bearing fruit and reproducing according to this endless cycle ©
Colours of the Seasons Collection
Colours of the Seasons celebrates the vibrant palette of each season. From the magnificent pink sunsets of Birak through the fiery reds of Bunuru's heat, to the warm tones of Djeran, Makuru and Djilba where fire brings us together, and leads us to the brilliant wildflowers of Kambarangs bloom. This collection captures the essence of Noognar six seasonal colours in all its forms and beauty.
Powerful emotive collections that visually explores topics of identity, culture, spirituality, perceptions and the connections we all experience as part of humanity's collective.
"Each collection has allowed me to evolve as an artist and individual" Djarliny
